50.923 Percent
It’s time to take a break – and have a snack.
With construction of The Tide about halfway complete – 50.923 percent by some estimates, what better time than now to stop and take a look at what workers have built?
The Downtown Norfolk Council, the City of Norfolk and Hampton Roads Transit will host a walking tour of the downtown light rail alignment on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 4 – 7:30 p.m.
The “Walk the Tide” tour will start at Harbor Park’s Lot B and head into downtown. Along the way, tour guides will explain some of the interesting features of the new light rail system and show off what all the noise, dust and distraction has produced thus far.
There are sections of completed track, bridges under the interstate, catenary poles, red ribbons of concrete, and plenty of dirt and rubble. After all, the work will continue into next year. Norfolk City Councilman Randy Wright will kick off the tour.
The tour will stop for a little R&R at California Pizza Kitchen followed by a visit to the new Residence Inn on York Street. The event ends at Voila, where there will be a bit more food, drink and music.
The event is open to the public, but registration is required. Click on the following link and you’re almost there. http://www.downtownnorfolk.org/rsvp
