A Vision For Regional Transit
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Hampton Roads Transit, and the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority invite the public to two meetings to learn about the region’s long-range goals for transit services.

The Hampton Roads Regional Transit Vision Plan is a look into the future of transit – 2025 and beyond – to imagine what may be possible for the region’s transit customers. It considers a variety of modes – everything from an expanded light rail system, streetcar services, bus rapid transit, high-speed ferry, to express and enhanced bus services.
The plan is not a set of approved projects. The idea is to see what transit existing land use policies will support in a given community or corridor. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, view presentations, and generally share their thoughts and ideas about the best path to follow.
Meetings will be held from 6-8 p.m., with a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m., at the following locations:
- Tuesday, November 30, 2010, City Center at Oyster Point, Fountain Plaza II Building – James River Room, 700 Town Center Drive, Newport News
- Wednesday, December 1, 2010, Hampton Roads Transit offices, 1500 Monticello Ave., Norfolk
Materials that will be presented at the meetings will be posted on November 30, for review. Comments will be accepted on the recommendations until December 24, 2010. Comments can be submitted in the following ways
- In person at one of the public information meetings
- By email at DRPTPR@drpt.virginia.gov
- By mail to Public Information Office, DRPT, 600 East Main St., Suite 2102, Richmond, VA 23219
The transit vision plan acknowledges the importance of land use planning to promote transit with an eye toward connecting the region’s major employment and activity centers. It emphasizes the advantages of mixed-use development to promote convenient, pedestrian-friendly conditions. The plan will help regional and local government select projects for further study.
