Half Fare ID Processing

Effective: Friday, December 19th, 2014

Due to the upcoming holidays, starting Monday, December 22nd, 2014, no Half Fare ID’s will be processed at our 18th St Administrative Facility or the Hampton Transit Center until Wednesday, January 7th at 18th Street and January 9th in Hampton.

Holiday Hours and Service Schedules

Effective: Wednesday, December 24th, 2014

Wednesday December 24th

Customer Service, the Newport News and the Hampton Transit Centers will be OPEN from 6 am-4 pm.

Thursday, December 25th

Customer Service, Transit Centers and all Administrative offices will be CLOSED.

Bus and Rail will operate on a Sunday schedule. There will be no Ferry service.

Friday, December 26th

All administrative offices will be CLOSED The Newport News, Hampton and Silverleaf Transit centers will be CLOSED. Customer service will be OPEN from 7 am-4 pm.

Bus, Rail and Ferry will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Wednesday, December 31st

Customer Service, the Newport News and the Hampton Transit Centers will be OPEN from 6 AM-4 PM. The Silverleaf transit Center will be OPEN 5 am to 1 pm.

Bus and Rail will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

The Ferry will operate on a regular weekday schedule until 2 a.m.

Thursday, January 1st

Customer Service, the Newport News and the Hampton Transit Centers will be CLOSED.

Bus and Rail will operate on a Sunday Schedule and there will be no Route 960.

The Ferry will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

January Service Changes

Effective: Sunday, January 18th, 2015

 

On Sunday, January 18th, 2015 the following service changes will be made.

Southside

 

Route 4

Schedule adjustments.

 

 Route 41

Routing and schedule adjustments will be made.  Route 41 will no longer provide service along Victory Boulevard between Greenwood Drive/Airline Boulevard and McLean Street between Airline Boulevard and Cavalier Boulevard.  Route 41 will operate to Victory Crossing Transfer Center via Greenwood Drive to McLean Street.

The weeknight trips departing DNTC at 7:20 pm, 7:50 pm, 8:20 pm & 9:20 pm will depart earlier to improve on time performance and transfer connections at County and Court.

 

MAX Route 918

Route 918 will operate an additional AM and PM trip.  The am trip will depart Silverleaf Park & Ride lot at 7:00 am.  The pm trip will depart Lafayette River Annex at 3:30 pm.

Route 8 Detour Update

Effective: Wednesday, December 10th, 2014

Due to ongoing construction along Tidewater Drive, the Route 8 will resume its detour until further notice.

New Stop at Court and Bart

Effective: Monday, December 8th, 2014

Due to the recent Downtown Portsmouth Transfer Center Relocation a temporary stop has been placed at the corner of Court St and Bart.

The Routes 41434547 and 50 will be on detour the new locations as follows:

Downtown Portsmouth Transfer Area Relocation

Effective: Thursday, November 20th, 2014

Due to construction, County and Court will be temporarily relocated .

The transfer area will be relocated to Wavy St and Harbor Way.
This is near the Ntelos Pavilion.

This will affect the Routes 4143444547 and 50

Patrons in the downtown area may also use the
Dinwiddie Street stops of County and High.

Half Fare ID Changes

Effective: Friday, November 21st, 2014

On November 21st, Half Fare ID applications will be processed on Fridays at the Hampton Transit Center, (HTC).

HTC is located at 2 West Pembroke Avenue.

We will no longer accept Half Fare applications on Wednesdays at this location.

Hampton Roads Transit will continue to process Half Fare applications on Wednesday’s at our facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The Hampton Roads Transit Administration office is located at 509 East 18th Street, Building 4.

Ticket Vending Machine Changes

Effective: Thursday, November 13th, 2014

Dear Hampton Roads Transit Customers

  • The prompts on the Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) prompts have changed.
  • There is now a Ride Now option and a Ride Later option.
      • Select Ride Now, if you are riding The Tide today and you will receive a validated Tide Pass.
      • Select Ride Later, if you need the pass for another day. This pass will not be validated.
          • You must validate the pass before riding The Tide.

         

        HALF FARE  REQUIREMENTS

         You are eligible for a Half Fare pass only if you meet the following criteria:

      • Youth, (17 & under)
      • Seniors, (65 and Older)
      • Certified Disabled
      • Medicare Card Holders.

    Passengers with a Half Fare pass must show ONE of the following to the Fare Enforcement Officer if ASKED;

    • HRT Half Fare ID Card
    • HRT ADA Certification Card (with photo identification)
    • Medicare Card (with photo identification)
    • Other forms of photo identification include:
      • Proof of Identity and/or Age
        • State-issued driver’s license
        • State-issued identification card
      • Proof of Identity
        • Non-expired passport

 

Failure to provide the proper identification for Half Fare eligibility or a validated pass, can result in a City Citation from the Fare Enforcement Officer.

Half Fare Identification Cards

Effective: Wednesday, November 26th, 2014

Dear Hampton Roads Transit Customers,

The Customer Service Department will be unable to process Half Fare Identification Cards on Wednesday, November 26th in Norfolk at: 509 East 18th St, Bldg # 4 & on November 28th at the Hampton Transit Center due to the observance of Thanksgiving, November 27th. We will resume our Half Fare Identification process on Wednesday, December 3rd in Norfolk & Friday, December 5th in Hampton.
