Lost and Found
Hampton Roads Transit is not responsible for passenger items left on buses. However, any lost item that is found or turned in by another customer on an HRT vehicle will be turned into the Lost and Found department. The exception will be perishable items that will be discarded immediately. Customers will be contacted regarding items such as wallets, credit cards, or identification cards that have some form of contact information. If contact cannot be made by phone and an address is available, the item will be mailed to the corresponding address. All other items customers can contact our offices by choosing one of the Lost and Found procedures listed below.Lost and Found pick up window hours
Our windows are open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The lost and found pick up windows are closed on weekends and all federal holidays. The window locations are at 1500 Monticello Avenue Norfolk, VA 23510 for Southside bus routes and 3400 Victoria Blvd, Hampton VA 23661 for North side routes which include the cities of Hampton and Newport News.
Telephone support
HRT Lost and Found staff members are available via telephone to provide assistance Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by calling (757) 222-6100. The Lost and Found Offices are closed on weekends and all Federal holidays.
Lost items are held for 30 days at our center at 1500 Monticello Avenue, Norfolk, VA. Missing items on bus routes on the Peninsula are held at 3400 Victoria Blvd, Hampton. After 30 days unclaimed items are donated to charity.
How to file a claim
Online - The easiest and most efficient way to report a lost item is our Online Contact Form. Once submitted, all of your lost item information will be accessible by Lost and Found personnel. You will receive a confirmation email stating the information has been received and will be reviewed by the Lost and Found department. All customers will be contacted back within 24-48 hours by a Lost and Found representative regarding the status of the item that was lost.
Phone - If you would prefer, you can report your lost item by phone. You may contact our Lost and Found office at (757) 222-6100 on the following hours: Monday –Friday 08:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., excluding national holidays. A customer service representative will record your information and forward the information to our Lost and Found department. All customers will be contacted back by phone within 24-48 hours by a Lost and Found representative regarding the status of the item that was lost.
Please note - You will only be contacted if a match is found for your item. If you are not contacted it means that your item was not recovered. HRT makes every attempt to return lost items to their rightful owners.
