Hampton Roads Transit will be getting $24.1 million for new buses and construction of a maintenance facility, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The money will come from $24.7 million of federal economic stimulus money to be used for transportation projects in Virginia, a Transportation Department news release said.

The Hampton Roads Transportation District Commission, the governing board of HRT, will use the money for seven 40-foot buses, construction of a maintenance facility, and renovations and equipment.

The government said in April that $14 million in stimulus money would help HRT build a $69.3 million campus on 18th Street to replace its aging administration and bus maintenance buildings.
