What is the Guaranteed Ride Home Program (GRP)?
GRP provides commuters who get to and from work by a means other than driving alone (i.e. carpool, vanpool, bike, or express bus) with a ride back to their point of origin in case of an emergency or unplanned event.
- Point of origin: Where the commuter originated from (i.e. P & R lot, carpool meeting place, or home only if it is where they are picked up from.
- Emergencies: Onset of illness while on the job, unexpected schedule change, emergency at home or child’s school, and unscheduled doctor’s appointment due to illness on the job.
- Qualifying modes: Carpool, vanpool, ferry to work, and biking to work. Express bus routes #121 & 64 and MAX routes #918, 919, 922, 967. (rt. 960 no longer qualifies).
Is there a cost involved to participate in the GRP program?
Registration is free for anyone who lives or works in Hampton Roads and utilizes alternative modes of transportation. To utilize the GRP service cost $3.00 per trip payable to the cab driver at time of trip.
How do I arrange a trip when an emergency arises?
To arrange a ride back to you point of origin, you just call 1-800-700-RIDE between the hours or 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. M-F, 7 a. m. – 7 p.m Saturdays, and from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sundays & holidays. All other times call or 757-222-6080. A representative will ask you qualifying questions then dispatch a cab to your worksite.
How many times can I use the GRP service?
The service can be used up to two (2) times a month but no more that twelve (12) times a year.
Can more then one person ride in the same cab?
Yes, if both parties are registered with GRP, each rider pays $3.00 and the ride is counted toward the maximum rides per month for each rider.
What happens when I exceed my maximum rides per month?
You will be denied trips for the remainder of that month but resume usage the next month. If a patterned of abuse is notice, you will be suspended for a certain amount of time.
